Recently, a friend here in Munich brought to our attention the very dry and funny humor of Loriot, who passed away last year. Born Bernhard-Victor Christoph Carl von Bülow and popularly known as Loriot, he was a German humorist and noted lover of pugs. He is famously quoted as saying, “Ein Leben ohne Mops ist möglich, aber sinnlos.” Literally, “A life without a pug is possible, but meaningless.”
